Canalway Cavalcade

As I mentioned in the previous episode, we were enjoying our sunny Sunday afternoon with cream tea and a photogenic cat, when Caroline called us saying that there is this boat festival in Little Venice, and they are already there. What’s the reaction of a responsible wayfarer in such a situation? “Let’s go”, of course. How does a responsible wayfarer change location? On foot, of course. Ok, there was a little bit of tube cheating there, because we took the Northern line to Camden Town, but then we decided to walk all the way along the canal to see the Canalway Cavalcade.

Amint azt az előző részben említettem, épp a vasárnap délutáni jól megérdemelt cream tea-nket élveztük egy nagyon fotogénikus oroszlán társaságában, amikor Caroline hívott, hogy van ez a hajó fesztivál Little Venice-ben, és ők már ott vannak. Mi a reakciója egy felelősségteljes vándornak egy ilyen helyzetben? Az, hogy “menjünk”, természetesen. Hogyan változtat helyet egy felelősségteljes vándor? Gyalog, természetesen. Najó, meg egy kicsit metróval, mert a Northern line-al jutottunk el Camden Townig, és úgy döntöttünk, hogy onnan a csatorna mentén sétálunk át Little Venice-be.

It was very difficult to fight ourselves through the Camden Town tourist crowd, and avoid the temptation to enter any of the shops, but we are strong and we made it.

Elég nehéz volt átverekedni magunkat a turistatömegen, és elkerülni a kísértést, hogy a csatorna partja helyett valamelyik boltban sétáljunk, de mi kemények vagyunk, és végül sikerült.

My experience so far is that when you just spontaneously walk around without specific expectations, you might find the most amazing or unbelievable or weird or bizarre or <replace your own word here> things. Such as:

Az eddigi tapasztalataim alapján, amikor az ember teljesen spontán módon mászkál, különösebb elvárások nélkül, olyankor bukkan rá a legkirályabb, -hihetetlenebb, -furcsább, -bizarrabb, -<helyettesítsd be a saját jelződet ide> dolgokra. Mint például:

I had a few minutes while the only thing I could think of was the question “Why?”, but then this boat came,

Eltelt pár perc ami alatt az egyetlen dolog amire gondolni tudtam, az a “Miért?” kérdés, de aztán jött ez a hajó,

and later on we could also see how difficult life can be for some people. Cutting all the grass, washing those windows, hoovering all around the place… Horrible.

később pedig láthattuk, milyen nehéz lehet egyes emberek élete. Nyírni azt a sok füvet, mosni azokat az ablakokat, felporszívózni az egész helyet… Borzalmas.

A very cool thing about the canal walk is that you actually walk through the London Zoo as well, and you have a chance to see some of the animals. I didn’t take any pictures there though, because let’s admit, 5 pixels of a bird behind a few layers of fence/net is not the most artistic thing to see. At least not for me. But here’s a picture of a big lilac bush. It smelled awesome.

A csatorna sétában az is nagyon király, hogy az ember közben átsétál az állatkerten, és ezalatt lehetőség adódik pár állatot meglesni. Ezen a részen nem fotóztam, mert lássuk be, egy 5 pixeles madárnak néhány réteg kerítés és háló mögött nincs túl nagy művészi értéke. Vagy legalábbis számomra. De itt van egy kép egy orgonabokorról. Nagyon jó illata volt.

After a while the canal scenery changes, and a more residential area can be seen. Residential meaning that the canal will be full of boats people actually live in, and because of the good weather, they were outside in their ‘gardens’, enjoying barbecue parties or romantic dinners. One of the items on my bucket list is to live for a short period on a boat (for example during a summer when you don’t actually need heating). 🙂

Egy idő után változik a csatorna díszlete, és egy lakottabb terület tárul az arra sétálók elé. Lakott alatt azt értem, hogy a csatorna tele van lakóhajókkal, és a jó időnek köszönhetően épp mindenki a kis ‘kertjében’ üldögélve sütögetett, és élvezte a romantikus vacsoráját. Amúgy ez volna az egyik dolog a bakancslistámon, hogy egyszer megtapasztalnám egy rövid ideig, milyen lehet egy hajón élni (például nyáron, amikor amúgy nincs szükség a fűtésre). 🙂

Not sure if this was just a joke, or they seriously thought that a tent for max. 2 will actually make any difference in case people drink too much, but I could hear when a few people asked this guy whether he’s alright.

Nem tudom eldönteni, hogy ezt viccnek szánták, vagy komolyan gondolták, hogy egy max. 2 személyes sátor tényleg jól jön, ha netán az emberek túl sokat innának, de hallottam, amint néhány arra járó kérdezgette a képen látható fickót, jól érzi-e magát.

To be honest, we didn’t see too much about the actual Canalway Cavalcade, because this was the last day of the festival, and as helpless wildlife lovers first got distracted by this cuteness

Őszintén szólva nem sokat láttunk a Canalway Cavalcade-ből, mert egyrészt ez volt a fesztivál utolsó napja, másrészt reménytelen állatvilág imádók lévén elterelte a figyelmünket ez a cukiság

and then by a pub-boat where we discovered our beloved Petting Zoo people and their ‘pettable’ pets from the Victor Wynd Museum of Curiosities that can be found in the Last Tuesday Society pub. More details about that here.

illetve a kocsma-hajó, ahol rátaláltunk a mi imádott állatsimogató embereinkre, és a simogatható állataikra a Victor Wynd Museum of Curiosities-ből, ami a Last Tuesday Society nevű kocsma pincéjében található. Több infó róluk itt.

Sooo we kind of ended up drinking and petting, not strictly in this order…

Úgyhogy végül egész este ittunk és simogattunk, nem feltétlenül ebben a sorrendben…
