• Clapham South Deep-level Shelter

Going Underground: Clapham South Deep-level Shelter

As part of the Hidden London tours organised by the London Transport Museum curious visitors have the chance to go down and walk around the Clapham South deep-level shelter, which is one of the eight Second World War civilian deep shelters built in London. Walking around the different rooms, halls and tunnels 30 metres deep under ground while we could regularly hear the Northern line trains passing above us was quite and experience, but I think the stories we heard during the one hour tour were even more interesting. A Londoni Közlekedési Múzeum által szervezett Rejtett London túrák egyike során a kíváncsi népeknek lehetősége adódik a Clapham Southnál található világháborús…

  • Photographica Camera Fair London 2016

    Photographica International Camera Collectors Fair

Myself and a few friends recently had a chance to check out the Photographica International Camera Collectors Fair, which is organised once a year by the Photographic Collectors Club of Great Britain. Even though I am quite new to this whole photography topic, and I am just scratching the surface of this massive amount of knowledge about the subject, it felt like this would be an interesting event to visit. Nemrég néhány barátommal alkalmunk adódott ellátogatni a Photographica nevű nemzetközi kamera vásárra, ami évente egyszer kerül megrendezésre a Nagy-britanniai Fotó Gyűjtők Klubja által. Annak ellenére, hogy nagyon újnak számítok a témában, és ennek a hatalmas tudáshalmaznak épp csak hogy a felületét érintgetem, ez az…

  • Kew Gardens Bluebells

Spring Special: Bluebell Carpets in Kew Gardens

Yes, it is spring, and it is warm, and it is sunny. And it is bluebell season. 🙂 Last week I spent quite a while googling the best spot in or very close to London, where we can see the famous bluebell carpets. After browsing through lots of those ‘Top eight…”, “Top ten…”, “… plus one” lists that all suggested locations far away from London, I bumped into the obvious: Kew Gardens! I’ve never been to Kew Gardens anyway, so this was the perfect time to make up this deficiency. Biza, tavasz van, és meleg, és napsütés. Ja meg harangvirág-szezon. 🙂 A múlt hét folyamán meglehetősen sok időt töltöttem Londonban vagy Londonhoz…

  • Boats, Boats Everywhere…

Every now and then my mind goes blank and starting a blog post in an appropriate way seems almost impossible. Now for example, I am sitting here for half an hour, staring at these rusty boats, and I have no idea where to begin. Anyway… it was August (yes, I know, I am extremely behind with sharing my life with the world), and Will and I wanted to go for a day-trip somewhere out of London. After browsing Google Maps for a very long time and trying to figure out which seaside town has the most romantic fisherman village look, we ended up choosing Leigh-on-Sea. Néha egész komolyan úgy érzem, hogy szinte…

  • Wildlife Spotting: The Deer of Richmond Park

Every time I mentioned that I would really like to go to Richmond, Will’s answer was constantly pushing the limits of my non existing patience: ‘even though Richmond is stunning all year long, the very first time you see it should be in the summer’. After many weekends when I thought it is already summer enough and I really wanted to go and see the famous deer but I always got the same answer: ‘even though the weather is ALMOST perfect, we should wait a bit more’, one Friday evening he stood there with a huge grin on his face and said: ‘Tomorrow is supposed to be very hot. We are going…

  • Wayfaring in Transylvania: Count Mikes Estate in Zabola

Because my granddad’s family on my mother’s side originates from Zabola, recalling all the interesting stories about the castle and the Mikes family was always a habitual element of the family gatherings. I remember these tales very well since I was a little kid, and I am pretty sure I have imagined a fantasy world (which unfortunately seems to be present mainly in children’s minds) around them. For all those years I always wanted to see both the castle and the whole estate. I was hoping that the reality won’t be too different from my own imaginary world. Mivel anyai ágon, nagyapám családja Zaboláról származik, már egészen kicsi koromban felfigyeltem az érdekesebbnél érdekesebb történetekre…

  • Wayfaring in Transylvania: The Postăvarul Massif

My trip home this August was very carefully planned and eventful, such that I can take the most out of the holiday. Part of this plan was a 5 day long trip with my parents. This wasn’t the first time, when we jumped into the car and drove around half of the country, but because of the fact that I am living in London for a year now, I think this was the first time, when I started to see things from a different perspective, and got excited because of bits and bobs that were normal before, and now I miss them in England. Mikor idén augusztusban hazajöttem, nagyon sűrű…

  • The Jersey Experience: Lazy Day on the Seaside

The initial plan was to visit Jersey in one day. Early morning flight, we get there right before the Durrell Wildlife Park opening time, spend the day wandering around, and fly back to London in the evening. Luckily, I have a much more experienced sister (/me bowing humbly), who suggested to stay one more day and look around a little bit, because Jersey must be a very cool place. So we stayed. The next morning – after a long and relaxing sleep, but still with numb feet – we were analysing the map in order to decide where to go. After having a short argument, and involving the other guests also having…

  • MCM London Comic Con

I am an extremely shy person when it comes to try and take photos of people I don’t know, and every time I actually convince myself to do it, I am prepared to run, if the subject notices my ‘suspicious’ behaviour, and tries to come after me. It’s also worth mentioning, that my knowledge of any kind of anime, manga, video game, sci-fi, or cosplay is very limited, but I thought, spending a day at the UK’s biggest modern pop culture weekend can be both fun, and a good exercise to put myself out there, and take a few shots. Luckily, these people are all lovely – and extremely exhibitionist -, and they love to…

  • The Jersey Experience: Durrell Wildlife Park

I was very young when I first came across Gerald Durrell’s name on the book entitled ‘My Family and Other Animals’ I was given to read because I would love it for sure. Well… I loved it indeed. Then a few years ago I also realised, that my sister – Tita – owns almost the complete Gerald Durrell book collection. I read a few and – as a result – I started to share the big love and admiration with her. Since then we were dreaming together about the day we will travel together to Jersey and visit the famous Menagerie Manor. Gerald Durrell nevével először a Családom és egyéb állatfajták…
