• Perhentian Islands

    Chilling on the Perhentian Islands

The Perhentian Islands lie next to the northeastern coast of Peninsular Malaysia. They are so far to the north, that they could easily belong to Thailand. There were two very convincing reasons why we chose these islands instead of the famous Langkawi Islands: they are not touristy at all and you have a chance to see and swim with turtles. A Perhentian szigetek Malajzia észak-keleti csücskénél fekszenek.

  • 5 Activities in Taman Negara

    5 Activities in Taman Negara

If I would have to name my absolute favourite place out of all my travels up until now, I would say Taman Negara straight away. In retrospect, I think I could spend months or even years there. Nonetheless, Will and I had only two days to explore the area. Based on our experiences, let’s see what people can choose to do here by themselves, without a tour guide, almost for free.

  • How to Visit Taman Negara by Yourself

The 130 million years old Taman Negara (which means “national park” in Malay) is one of the world’s oldest rainforests. This 4343 square kilometers big national park is home for a wide range of animals, such as deer, wild boars, tapirs, monkeys, elephants, hornbills, tigers and leopards, and it has been developed into a famous ecotourism destination. When Will and I first read about it, we knew straight away that we will come and visit. The only question was, how to get there? A 130 millió éves Taman Negara (ez malájul nemzeti parkot jelent) a Föld egyik legöregebb esőerdeje. Számtalan különböző állatfaj, köztük szarvas, vaddisznó, tapír, majom, elefánt, orrszarvú madár,…

  • Durrell's Photographer of the Year 2016

Durrell’s Photographer of the Year 2016

Since my sister and I visited the Durrell Wildlife Park on the summer of 2015, I read through all the newsletters they send out quite thoroughly. Last summer I noticed that they announced a photo competition and people can people can submit shots to several different categories. Because during our visit I managed to take lots of pictures, I sat down quickly, selected my favourite ones, sent them to the specified email address and then I forgot about this whole thing. Amióta 2015 nyarán nővéremmel Jerseyre látogattunk, rendszeresen olvasom a Durrell Állatkert által kiküldött hírleveleket. Tavaly nyár végefele arra lettem figyelmes, hogy Durrellék fotóversenyt hirdetnek és több különböző kategóriában is nevezni…

  • Elephant Nature Park Chiang Mai

Elephant Nature Park: a Sanctuary for Gentle Giants

Because the elephant is considered to be Thailand’s national symbol, most of the people who visit this country will try to have a closer look of these peaceful trunk owners. Unfortunately, riding these creatures and documenting the activity is a compulsory element of the average tourist’s photo album, despite the fact that people don’t really know much about them. Due to their strength, intelligence, memory and pleasant nature throughout history local people found them suitable for different types of work, so they were caught, trained and forced to do many jobs. Hundreds of years ago they played an important role in the battles, later they were mainly used for logging, but they were…

  • Wildlife Spotting: The Deer of Richmond Park

Every time I mentioned that I would really like to go to Richmond, Will’s answer was constantly pushing the limits of my non existing patience: ‘even though Richmond is stunning all year long, the very first time you see it should be in the summer’. After many weekends when I thought it is already summer enough and I really wanted to go and see the famous deer but I always got the same answer: ‘even though the weather is ALMOST perfect, we should wait a bit more’, one Friday evening he stood there with a huge grin on his face and said: ‘Tomorrow is supposed to be very hot. We are going…

  • The Jersey Experience: Durrell Wildlife Park

I was very young when I first came across Gerald Durrell’s name on the book entitled ‘My Family and Other Animals’ I was given to read because I would love it for sure. Well… I loved it indeed. Then a few years ago I also realised, that my sister – Tita – owns almost the complete Gerald Durrell book collection. I read a few and – as a result – I started to share the big love and admiration with her. Since then we were dreaming together about the day we will travel together to Jersey and visit the famous Menagerie Manor. Gerald Durrell nevével először a Családom és egyéb állatfajták…

  • Exploring the Peak District: The Roaches

On a long-awaited July weekend Will, Mikey, Sigga and I travelled to Manchester to visit Elena. Since all of us are big nature lovers, Elena decided to show us one of her favourite spots in the Peak District: The Roaches. The name comes from the French Les Roches – just because someone wanted to appear very refined -, which (who would have guessed?) means The Rocks, and it refers to the spectacular rocky ridge at 505m above sea level, very popular with rock climbers and hikers.

  • Wildlife Spotting: London Zoo Sunset Safari

Ok, so if someone invites me to go anywhere, where I can see some animals, I can’t and won’t say no. This wasn’t any different, when Giulia found out that during the summer months London Zoo organizes an event called Sunset Safari, which means, that on every Friday – after the opening hours – the zoo reopens for the (theoretically) adults, to enjoy some food, (alcoholic) drinks, and wildlife. So we quickly got some tickets, and on a sunny Friday afternoon we went to discover the unknown.

  • Wildlife Spotting: Peacocks

Despite the fact that Holland Park is considered to be West-London’s most peaceful park, for an embarrassingly long time I didn’t even realise it’s there. Then one weekend I decided to explore a park I haven’t been to before, and that was the moment when I caught a glimpse of a small green area on the map, right next to Hyde park.
